A good cheapish search engine required

Is there a relatively good, simple to install, search engine that I could try and if it does what I want it to do, pay a small fee?

I have Apache installed, a web page and database.
My web page is not on line yet.

I have tried the Full Text search engine from phpfreaks, the free google engine and Matts free search engine, but being on the thickish side of normality, I cannot get them working.

What I want is to show a result of up to about thiry rows at a time.

much simpler than Google, so what was the problem. You only have to copy and paste the code into your site.

The problem maybe his site isn't listed in the google database?

Submit your website to google first.

barryoneoff.co.uk, thank you.

I inserted my google API key in "search.php", and changed the "$site" to the following.

$site = "localhost/mydatabase"

localhost brings up my web page.

mydatabase is my database name in which I have one table with five fields which I would like to search.
When I go to "localhost" while off line, my web page, with the search box appears o.k, but when I enter something to search for I just get a white page.
I obviously need to change something or other but I cannot see what?

Gaz 25, no it is not listed :-( I did not want to put it online because it is mediocre at the moment, that is why I am using Apache, to get it working first?
What must I do please?

Gaz 25, thank you for the links.
So, am I correct in thinking that I cannot test the google search engine on my PC when offline?

  Gaz 25 19:59 30 Dec 2006

That would be correct yes.

You need to submit to google and wait for the site to be live before you can then search.
