ghost software

i have a query more than a q, i understand that symantecs ghost software will backup hard drive. ok i,m all up for that my query is this i have a lappy that has recovery cds with it that run ghost is this what symantecs ghost does ? create cds of the drive as it is at moment so if everythings fine i can just put cds in and it will auto start and reload back to original settings
i.e formatting then reloading os and all progs

Yes, Symantec Ghost makes an image of your hard drive just like recovery disks. When you reinstall from the disk you have created in ghost it formats the drive and loads all the information which is on the image, just like the recovery cd's which come with commercial computers. I use ghost to image my hard drive but instead of storing the image on a cd, i store it on another hard drive just in case i need to reinstall at some point.
