I reformatted and re-installed ME 3 days ago. Today, I received the following messages before having to reboot:

"Msimn has caused an error in GDI.exe"
"Winwood has caused an error in GDI.exe"
"Iexplore has caused an error in GDI.exe"

Any ideas?

Thanks. These mesages now have a cousin:
"Iexplore has caused an error in User.exe"

I have exactly the same problem; re-installed ME after hard disk re-format; reinstalled MS Works but cannot now print from Word, Works or Wordpad. None of the suggested links in this thread seems to provide a solution. Have you had any success, and if, so, how can the "winword has caused a fault in gdi.exe" problem be overcome? My computer is connected to a Kyocera FS680. Reinstalling the printer software makes no difference.

Thanks to all for the references. I have discovered conclusively that the installation of MSN Messenger is responsible for ALL of my errors. These errors appear immediately after installation of Messenger and vanish quickly after uninstallation.

Although Messenger is used exclusively by my 15 year-old son, I can't keep it on in order to find a solution because its presence renders the PC unusable.
