Gaming latency (Very confusing)

Hello,

I call this a latency problem but it appears not to be (as I explain below). I just have no other way of labeling it.

I've had this issue for about 9 months on WoW. Before this problem popped up, my average in-game ping was around 32ms 90% of the time in game. And then, at some point, it never touched below 200ms, regardless of realm. It's always over 200ms, 100% of the time. Buuuut..

Heres the confusing bit: My average hop ping when tracerting the WoW server is 21ms, and never higher than 55ms at any stage!?

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1

2 8 ms 7 ms 7 ms 10.89.0.1

3 13 ms 14 ms 12 ms pc-62-30-242-97-bn.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.242.97]

4 10 ms 15 ms 13 ms pc-62-30-242-37-bn.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.242.37]

5 11 ms 11 ms 9 ms pc-62-30-242-70-bn.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.242.70]

6 14 ms 12 ms 12 ms 195.50.113.29

7 17 ms 12 ms 12 ms telia-level3-ge.London1.Level3.net [4.68.111.182]

8 11 ms 12 ms 11 ms ldn-bb2-link.telia.net [80.91.254.21]

9 29 ms 29 ms 30 ms hbg-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.250.220]

10 52 ms 55 ms 52 ms s-bb1-pos5-0-0.telia.net [213.248.64.29]

11 52 ms 54 ms 52 ms s-b3-link.telia.net [213.248.66.2]

12 52 ms 54 ms 55 ms s-hdn-i3-link.telia.net [80.91.249.69]

Looks good right? Now let's go in game, I get this:

209ms ping! Why??

Players jutter along. They're in one place moving, then it'll 'update' sudden and they're slightly to the right, then they're headed to a wall but it'll update and correctly show them moving around a corner. It's just constant jutter jutter jutter, VERY unsyncronized. Monsters etc in the game move fine, it's just other people.

Things I've tried or updated (to try fix this, or for other reasons): New router. New wireless card. Formatting several times to clean install. New graphics card. Switch RAM into different slots, and check both work OK. Called my ISP and got them to do checks on the connection. Port forwarding and trigger on 3724. Removed all addons. Turned off windows wireless zero config service once connected. Removed firewall from PC and turned off router firewall.

Bottom line is. Ping to server via traceroute, good! Ping to server when in wow, bad.

What on earth could cause this? I'm confused and frustrated beyond belief :(

The problem may not be so obvious...

Try this,

1. Update he Graphics card driver.
2. Update the sound card driver.

How fast does sound travel to catch up with the graphics is down to the software and drivers...

I'll give both a try now (I think I have the latest graphics drivers but haven't tried sound yet).
