Games on External Drive

I've just bought an external 320gb (usb) drive, because my internal 160gb drve is almost full. Is it possible to install games onto this external drive, I tried installing a game to my external 'F' Drive and I just got the message that it wasn't a recognised file path. I've managed to save photos, music etc to the new drive but cant seem to install games on it..any ideas? If I did manage to install the games would the data transfer rate be fast enough to run the games?

Yes, there should be no problem. Windows doesn't mind where the game is stored as long as the whole game and all the patches are on the same drive.

games install entries in the req, maybe this is the problem as this is in the main drive.
