Full drive capacity not being recognised

  baucis 15:25 03 Jul 2003

I have put a new Maxtor 30Gb hard drive in a five year old computer with a PentiumII 333MHz processor and the drive is only recognised as under 8Gb. Is there a work around this problem?
I tried updating the BIOS and got a message "incompatible file already in BIOS".

five year old, are you running windows 95 by any chance, if so thats your problem.

windows 95 can only recognise 8gig hard drive partitions, if this is the case you could partition your drive into 4 drives.

or do as BillEmm says and visit the site, look for the downloadable file to fool your pc into recognising the full 30gig.

good luck
