FTPing from behind Windows firewall on XP

  ITBuffoon 21:28 20 Nov 2006

I'm trying to upload files to my website via FTP.

I've tried an FTP client(coffee cup) and tried ftp via IE. Neither work, they just hang.

I can upload if I turn off the firewall, but that's not the point of a firewall is it?!

I have tried to make the coffee cup program an 'exception', in XP, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. has anybody had any similar problems?

Use Zone Alarm free edition from zonelabs, its easier...

Can you not configure your firewall to allow this ?

As Streetwork points out,try Zonealarm free click here this should then give the option of Allow/Deny.

Remember to uninstall your other Firewall as you may have a conflict.

Yes, I agree Zone Alarm is better but I'm using someone else's laptop. I don't want to uninstall things on it.

I have to tried to configure it. I added the Coffee Cup FTP to the 'exception' list, but it just didn't allow me to connect to the FTP server.
