FSB Settings

  fsbb 22:14 10 Mar 2004

I have just installed new m/board which supports FSB and Memory 266 & 333.

I have installed Athlon XP 2200+, set jumpers to 266, and frequency in BIOS has automatically set to 133.

Memory installed is DDR 2700 333.

Are the settings correct and memory type ok?

I ask because the guy in the shop told be to set the jumpers to 333 and manually set BIOS to 133. This didn't make sense to me, but I am new to upgrading.

BIOS and Windows correctly recognise the Athlon and RAM.

Also, how can I create a 'Control Panel' shortcut on desktop - Windows XP Home Edition.

Second question:

right click on desktop and create a new shortcut

rename as

Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Otherwise, the easy way, open "my computer" and drag the control panel to the desktop!

That should read "create a new folder" not shortcut.

Thanks re Control Panel tip - dragged it as suggested.

The Athlon XP 2200+ uses a FSB of 266MHz (I assume that's your model).

If the jumpers on the mobo you're talking about are for setting the FSB, then yes, it should be 266. FSB refers to the CPU bus speed, not to the memory speed. And in BIOS, the FSB should be shown as 133mHz. That's all correct.

You can double check in BIOS the memory speed (DRAM frequency or something like that?),which is something else.

If your motherboard chipset supports a combination of FSB 133MHz and memory speed of 166MHz (or 167 or thereabouts) for DDR333, then the memory speed or frequency should be auto-detected and run at 166Mhz. No need to change. This combination is usually supported.

Thanks for your help in confirming all is well with my setup and explaining the speeds which originally confused me.
