frozen boot and beyond

  damnthispc 14:12 20 Mar 2008

I'm having problems booting my pc, it gets to the second post screen, tests the memory which comes out ok then freezes. at the bottom of the screen where you normally see data re temps, all i get is cpu temp 3?C with all the other options greyed out and blank data.
when it does start after powering the board down completely it freezes again after a couple of mins. Can't even getas far as scanning for viruses etc or repair windows.
any advice welcome.
what comes to mind is a dodgy memory stick or the board/CPU is on the way out

Unplug anything in the USB ports and retry.

Could Be a Driver Problem. Try Starting in Safe Mode, tap F8 or F5 as computer starts Then Try System Restore to a Old Date

I'll try the usb option when i get home from work, can't even get to the start mode option as it freezes on mem check one screen too early.
I'll feedback later

Then it looks like bad memory. if you have more than one stick try just one on it's own

Managed to get it up and running. I made a note of the programmes installed from the system restore calender then restored. hey presto no problems. I'll install each of the progs and see what happens then I'll know the culprit.
but first a deep system scan for viruses etc
thanks guys
