Frontpage HTML:lines between <head> and </head>

I am producing a 5th page for our web & started by copying (or was it pasting?)the home page before deleting & then adding new info etc.
I have compared the lines in HTML on the new page with the other 4 and notice the existence of an extra line in the new one.
Below the line head> the existing pages have four which I have numbered here:
1. meta http-equiv=...
2. meta name="keywords..
3. meta name=Description...
4. title>
Onthe new page Nos 2&3 are the same but line 1 shows at 4, with title> becoming 5.
Line 1 reads meta http-eqiv="content-Language"content"en-gb">
Do I remove No1 & replace it with line 4?

How your head is structured depends on what you want to include and what you actually need to include for a given doctype. An example:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"click here">
<html xmlns="click here" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

<head>
<title>Title of page goes here</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type"
content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="index.css" />

</head>

Note the absence of the <?xml version tag above the doctype. I leave this out to prevent IE from running in quirks mode.

It would be a lot easier to assess if you post your head as above.

Existing pages:
meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=widows-1252">
meta name="keywords"content="pickering,Pickering,bed&breakfast">
meta name="Description"content="guesthouse bed & breakfast in the...">
<title> Title of page</title>
New page: <meta http-equiv="content-Language"content="en-gb">
<meta name="keywords"content="pickering,...">
<meta name="Description"content="guesthouse...">
<meta http-equiv="content-type"content="text/html;charset=windows-1252">
<title>Title of page</title>

You've missed out the doctype, so I can't see what HTML standard you are using. Semantic standards become more important with the Strict doctypes. I would expect to see the charset field below your keyword fields.

I would advise you to validate the code at click here. Expect a lot of other errors, but don't worry about those at this point.

How's it going?

I spent many happy? hours trying to absorb the knowledge/guidance you directed me towards without being able to answer my own question!! I took a 2 day web free period to reduce the stress levels. Since then another web wizard has suggested the extra meta tag line is neither here nor there, so I have ignored it & will publish the extra page today.
Thanks again for trying to sort me out. It must be difficult knowing at what level to pitch your responses.
