Freezing after AVG 8.5 download

  dnjl 17:16 08 Mar 2009

My computer was working ok until I downloaded AVG 8.5 new version - now I cannot get into my computer without it freezing up - after it has set itself up. I tried to delete it via add/delete programs and got threequarters of the way through (to the part where it states "checking system") then it froze and turned itself off.

I have tried about 10 times turning it on and the warmer the tower gets with each turn on the less time you have before it freezes.

Is there anyway to delete AVG without going through the computer "Set up" bit

As a complete novice I would need step by step instructions please.

thanks - I have managed to get in and stay long enough to get rid of AVG 8.5
However, I cannot find other free AVG to replace it with. After being online about 5 mins. it froze again.
When it freezes it will not let you back in until the unit has completed gone cold, and then it is very very slow - I have managed to do a disk clean up and a partial WinASO clean up (1st 20 errors out of over 100).
Have tried to do a systems restore back to last week - it just said it could not be done and froze.
Anyone have any ideas please

Sounds like AVG is not your main problem.
Never rely on registry cleaners to sort out fundamental issues such as yours.

Temporarily install a less resource-hungry antivirus product if you are going to using the internet; click here
Make sure AVG has been fully removed first.

If your PC is more than a few months old, dust may have accumulated inside the case and be causing overheating. click here

Check your hard drive for errors. click here

Unlikely to be a memory problem, as you don't mention blue screen crashes.

Disconnect any non-essential hardware and see how long the machine runs before problems occur.

Having tried later versions of the free AVG and found problems, I have remained with version 7.5 on both my PC and laptop. I get daily updates, and all is working well.

This version still available here:

Thanks to all for your help and advice.
I have had to get a local computer repair specialist in and after an hr. he came to conclusion it had a bug.
To cut a long story short - I had picked up a Trojan. He has now cleared it and fortunately he has saved all my data and is now putting it back on for me. Delered back to me tomorrow.
I write this with my lap top.

NOW WHAT can I use instead of AVG free to stop a Trojan???

i had a similar problem with avg8.5.
according to avg you have to switch off all firewalls,anti-virus and adware removal programs.

it worked for me.

I have just updated from 7.5 Free edition to 8.5 free edition (AVG) and 8.5 has suddenly appeared in Dutch (I think it is Dutch, at least).

Could someone please tell me how to turn the language into English? Your help would be amazingly helpful in getting me to understand the program!
