Freeware Office suite that's MS compatible?

Can anyone please tell me if there's a freeware Office suite - word processor, spreadsheet, etc. - which has file formats that are fully compatible with Microsoft Office .doc and .xls formats?

Needs to run under Vista.

Many thanks.

Open Office.

Fits the bill perfectly in every respect.

I use open office as above, but also noticed star office 8 is free, which although more or less the same product, it does have a few extras.

that there are some functions that aren't compatible, and OpenOffice wont run any MS macros.

Also, if there are macros in an MS file and you open it in OpenOffice, make changes, and resave in OpenOffice, any "buttons" and such like that were used to run macros wont work anymore.

Note that I'm not dismissing OpenOffice... far from it; I use the word processor myself in preference to "Word", but the above you should be aware of, particularly if sharing stuff with others.

If spreadsheets are uncomplicated there should be no problems.

Good luck,

Regards,

Simsy
