Please does anyone know of a good free download manager.
I would like one that can I pause and restart at any time.

I have tried DAP and IMD but they don't pause and restart at will. At least they don't on my PC.

Thank you for all your help.

Try Flashget

It might be because mine is the paid-for version.

FreshDownload will do all that you require, is ad etc free and does what it says on the tin.

I've been using it for at least seven or eight years with both dial-up and broadband.

Create a FreshDownload folder and download all files to that folder (make it the Target) and you will also have a full backup of your downloads (delete any that are not required).
