--------- Compacting messages. -----------

All your OE folders are a single file - the Inbox, for instance is one file, with all your messages in it.

When you delete an email, it is not removed from that file - it's just marked as *not there* - so it no longer shows up. Technically the Inbox is a database, and the only messages you see from the database, are those marked as *present* in another file called the index.

Compacting removes all the deleted files from the database, and rebuilds the index to match.

So basically it tidies up and removes all the *no longer required* stuff.

Rather clearer .... Each of your OE folders is a single file.

So all my deleted emails are in the index box (Index Box =just another file?). Is it possible to open the index box? Just curious.
