'Found New Hardware' Wizard not searching internet

  aalindo 18:15 15 Apr 2007

I have several bits of new hardware connected to my pc via USB. When i connect each one, the 'Found New Hardware' Wizard pops up. It asks if i want to install the hardware, i say yes and it asks me whether it should search my system for the installation software of if i want to browse for it. Neither of these options is any good, as i dont (and never have had) the installation CD. However, i'm sure that when i have connect things in the past, windows just goes away and looks for the installation software on the internet. This isnt happening and i cant see anything in control panel to make it do it. Im using Windows XP SP2. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Model numbers of hardware?

Sorry, no model numbers, am at a different house now. To be honest, there must be a generic issue, as there is a printer, scanner, usb 4 port hub and a webcam all connected but not installing automatically.
