Hi,
I've had a laptop on loan for a year and a half, and now have to return it. I'm very aware that my personal details will be on there. I know i can delete files that i know i have saved, but there will be other stuff on there that i cant see.

I want to format the hard drive or the next best thing to be happy that no information will remain on it. It is Windows 98 SE and i have no manual.

Please could someone explain how i could clean the computer. maybe i could leave Win 98 on there but think that won't be good enough.

Many thanks

Here's an explanation. Please read from start to finish before doing anything click here

P.S. It is my understanding that experts can extract information even from a formatted drive. However unless you've been really naughty or have state secrets on board, formatting should be sufficient.
