Formatting HDD

  Abel 16:36 08 Dec 2005

I've just bought a new computer which does not have a FDD. Is it possible to format the HDD without using an operating system CD?

Boot from a 98 or ME floppy and at the A prompt type in Format C:

Make a bootable CD with the formatting program on it.

Use a USB pen drive (mostnew systems can boot from them.)

Why don't you want to use the OS CD?

Use the manufacturers utility.

Who made the drive?

Go into my computer right click it and choose properties, or have a look in device manager. Right click my computer and choose properties....

When you find out go to the manufacturers website they normally have a utility suite to boot from and test the drive, there usually iss a format option in them too.
