iPhone X review
I am running XP and am constantly having to "repair" it as files hal.dll & ntoskrnl.exe go "walkabout".
Thg is takes an hour at a tim e & I am fed up with it. I suspect that one opr other of the programmes installed on my machine is conflicting with XP and would like to format the hard disk (i have done with before on W95 and W98 so I understand the implications) but cannot persuade XP to allow me to do so.
I have tried using a MS DOS boot-up floppy but the resulting prompt does not see to understand the Format commant.
If I try to use the inbuilt dos prompt, i get so far and then it tells me that the "volume" is being used by another programme and cannot be formatted whilst that programme is still open. I assume that this means XP itself.
Can anyone tell me in words of one syllable how I can format my hard disk?
The WinXP will have to be in the drive and set the BIOS to boot from CD.

you have an option to Install Windows XP or repair with Recovery Console. Select
the option to install and you will have a License Agreement presented.
Press F8 to accept the agreement and you will be presented with the

Select the option for a new install and you will have the options to
It'll ask as its copying files to use during installation to
press F6 if you need to install SCSI or Raid drivers at the bottom of the
screen and you'll come to a screen that'll ask you where you want to
install WinXP and as you continue you'll be asked if you want to format the
drive. (There's an option for Quick Format but I would do the Full Format) and I would
also tell it to Format using NTFS.
