When you format regardless of whatever operating system its suppose to erase everything & then you would get it to re install again the relevant drives & operating system. If you were to just re install it again with the recovery disk that normally comes with a pc when you buy it, but not format it then would the recovery disk also erase the h/d? or would it remain untouched?

Most recovery disk come with two options: destructive nd non-destructive restoration.

The first will format and wipe everything off; the second will not.
