formating c drive

i have tried to forma c drive by promting, format c/s but nothing is happening. is there another way or am i doing it wrong, (most prob the latter.)

tried format c: but it says drive is locked

doing this because pc is excessivly slow and kids have filled it with rubish/bugs/trogans etc etc

You should use the format function from the setup disk. If this is XP, set the computer to boot from CD and restart, press spacebar to boot from CD, and choose to delete the partition when it appears, then create a partition and Windows setup will format it for you during the install.

Never format a primary hardrive from within the OS, I assume your on XP as it has stopped the action.
