What format do you wish to use?
FAT32 or NTFS?

If fat use a DOS Disk If NTFS do you have a XP CD?

If the PC has a floppy disk drive, you could boot with a Windows 98 "boot floppy" and format the drive. You can download the disk from click here but need a working PC with a floppy drive to create the disk.

A Windows installation disk, if you have one, will also format the hard drive.

Thanks Fruit Bat. Which format doesn't matter at this stage, I do have an XP disc, can I somehow use that then?

Yes , run setup let it find the partition and then format the partition after formating just cancel XP setup.

Just in case you are assuming that a format will wipe the data it will not.

Thanks Fruit Bat, I'll use the XP method, thanks too bremner for the caution note.
