Flurry of Windows Defender updates

I'm using Windows 7 Professional with Windows Defender presumably running somewhere in the backgound (it doesn't appear in my All Programs list).

Do any members know why I'm suddenly receiving a flurry of updates for Defender (9 in the last month)?

Mine is turned off as I prefer (free) Avast as an anti virus. Have a look at: Start, Control Panel, Windows Defender. Mine says it is turned off .I assume you get the updates if it is on. I did find that (wrongly) I had it running in parallel with Avast for a while.

In fact I also us free Avast and, apparently, Defender is turned on by default in Win 7. BUT Defender is an anti-spyware program according to Microsoft, not an AV program, so there's no clash with Avast.

Sorry - I was out of date. I use Malawarebytes Premium (£14 lifetine subscription) instead , plus Spywareblaster and Superantispyware so it seems, for me a bit OTT to leave Defender running as well!

Understood! ;-))

I also use SpywareBlaster but I'll probably leave them both running - belt and braces me thinks!
