Floppy won't work

I have bought a brand new floppy disc drive and cable for my computer as the old one broke. Hardware wise everything went well. But when you insert a disc it says please insert a disc into drive a: Help

Have you checked the BIOS to make sure the Floppy drive is being detected? Also make sure the cables are connected the right way round.

Had a similar problem. Turned out the cable wasn't properly seated at the drive end.

If you got the floppy cable plugged in the wrong way round the floppy will seem to work, but will, "in my experiance" fail to recognise disks. Made this error myself more than once. double check the red traced wire on the cable is on pin 1 at both the mobo end and the floppy end.
