My floppy drive seems to always trying to access itself.

for example playing games, it will try and open up what ever is the drive. This then in turn slows the game down.

I dont have anything that runs in the back ground that may want to access the drive so i am stuck as to why it is doing it.

XP Pro, K7S5A board, 1gb 133 ram, GF4 MX440, XP1700. Not sure what make the floppy dirve make is....

Has it always done this? From what program have you saved to the FDD recently?

Try opening the office files that you have saved to floppy then saving to your hard disk. Then close the Office application.

This behaviour has occurred under Windows since time immemorial (almost).

If you need to save a file to floppy it is far better to save to hard disk, then drag and drop a copy onto a floppy.

Try going into device manager, floppy drive, right click and disable it. (don't forget to enable it when you need it).
