I get this error on the first boot-up screen:
Floppy disk(s) fail (40)

How do i fix it?

Most likely one of these:

1. the data cable is loose - check both ends.

2. the data cable is connected the wrong way round. The red stripe normally goes to pin 1 on the drive and motherboard and the twist in the cabling goes to the drive.

3. the drive is duff and should be replaced.

Should have added:

4. power cable not connected properly.

Hi D-Frame. This could be a faulty, or dislodged floppy drive cable, or a faulty motherboard. But by far the most likely cause is that the floppy drive has failed. Fortunately floppy drives are very cheap, about £10 at your local computer shop or about £5 + postage from Ebuyer click here
