Floppy Disk reading

  brambles 19:41 09 Feb 2003

My friend has purchased what he claims to be pre-formatted disks from W H Smith but - when he tries to read from them it states something like A not accesible disk not formatted no I/D.

Could this be a drive problem?

Not always Its usually because they are formatted in a Dos his/her machine doesnt Know/recognise.. take one of the discs through a format on the machine and see if its ok then ..If not return the lot...

Have you tried formatting them again by opening My Computer, right-clicking on the A: drive and selecting Format..? Make sure the disk is in the drive.

Oh nearly forgot you can get the same sort of result if you don't allow the disc to acclimatise to the environment ( coming in from cold ) same as video tapes..
