floppy disk drive not working

My floppy disk drive has stopped working having worked perfectly ok up until now. I've been into device manager and it says 'Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)'. The troubleshooter just says the device is faulty and contact the manufacturer. I've tried attaching another floppy drive which was working on another pc with the same result. Thinking it might be the cable I've attached a USB floppy drive and still it is not detected. I've been into the BIOS and checked that it is enabled.

I've seen a previous post suggesting editing the Registry might work but I'm not sure I like the idea of doing that.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion but the only info I could find on the acme site seems to deal with faults with the floppy disk drive itself and I think I've proved by substituting other working floppy drives that this can't be the case. I could research other threads if I knew what the problem was likely to be caused by.

This thread is now locked and can not be replied to.
