Flight Sim 2004 has gone into Safe Mode.

I run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 on XP Home Edition and have done for some six months now.
Last week it suddenly became impossible to use because the aircraft would become unstable on the runway at take – off and the scenery files became very jerky. The DC3 icon on the Desk Top now reads Safe Mode instead of FS 2004. Perhaps it was a coincidence but this happened just after I did one of my infrequent disc Defrags. I suppose the answer is to Uninstall the programme and then do a Re-Install. However I am intrigued as to what has happened here, can anyone tell me ?

I've just had the same problem after installing Roxio's Easy CD / DVD creator 6. FS 2004 slowed to a crawl and went into safe mode. Uninstalling the aforementioned programme cured it.

I have absolutely no idea why!!
