Fitting 2nd/slave hard drive

  albu 11:13 16 Apr 2009

I have an HP Compaq desktop system that comes with recovery cds. I don't think I have the full Windows XP PRO software.

Is it possible to install a slave hard drive into these systems?

Would a portable external HD be better?

I've installed hard drives into systems with the full xp software but not the recovery cd system type.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It should make no difference, you can either install a slave or an external HD. Whichever you prefer.

Before you buy an internal HDD check to see what is fitted, IDE/SATA. If it is SATA the second drive is far easier to fit as you don`t need to worry about jumpers.

Some Compaq and HP PCs have no room for second drive. Check that you have a slot available or that provision has been made to mount on the base of the case.
