Firewire - 6pin or 4?? camcorder

I have just bought a new mini dv camcarder and reading all the reviews, decided to buy a firewire cable to transfer the data.

My question is, I purchased a 4 to 6 pin, but have now noticed theres a 4 to 4 pin, will they both work??? i know the 6 pin provides extra power, but i'm confused as to if it'll fit?!

So, you need a 6-pin to 4-pin configuration to connect a computer to a camcorder. If you want to transfer video between two camcorders then you need a 4-pin to 4-pin configuration. If you want to conenct external disk drives or other storage peripherals then you'll typically need the 6-Pin to 6-Pin configuration. joel.
