Firefox using 94% of Resources

  mattyc_92 11:48 08 Jun 2006

Hi, just noticed my computer running slower than usual (taking around 1 minute to restore WMP from a minimize state).
So I poped up the Task Manager and noticed my CPU resources are at 100%. I looked at the processes and firefox is using 94% of the resources...

Anyone any ideas?

Have you got lots of tabs open? This can cause high CPU usage.

Same here. Wonder if the recent update has anything to do with it.

It seems very odd to me, while multiple tabs will jack up the memory usage, Firefox is usually very low on the list for CPU usage. I just tried it with multiple tabs and windows and got a momentary peak of 92%, but it almost immediately dropped back to 0% as the windows finished loading.

I have just rebooted the system and it seems to be ok now..

beynac, I only had one tab open

I will leave this unticked just incase...

If the problem doesn't surface within the next hour or so, I will tick the thread ;-)

Just had the same problem again, but this time going up to 98%
I have cleanned all my temporary files, cookies etc... using CCleaner and tried again.
Same thing.
Just went onto another site and it dropped to 22%

I guess Firefox doesn't like PC Advisor today

It seems you may not be alone!click here click here click here

and particularly click here

I believe that some extensions can cause problems as can a corrupt profiles file.

I don't know exactly what I have done, but the problem has just "gone"...

Thanks to all who responded...

I used to get both high RAM and CPU usage a while ago and it was annoying.

It only lasted a few days though and like in your case, the problem just disappeared.

Here's my old thread.
It was a while ago though
