Firefox, thunderbird - Slow start up.

Can anybody post some of the main causes of slow start up with these two clients?
Sometimes Firefox - which is the main culprit - can take up to 10 seconds.
Any ideas appreciated.

generally, its because of just having a slow pc. I used to have this problem on my old pc but that was just because it was only 333Mhz

Not a slow pc.
AMD 3000+, 1 gig Ram ATI Radeon 9550 256 Vid.
Good HDD's (7200) 400 FSB
Any more ideas?

when you say slow how slow d oyou mean. Do you mean 10 seconds, 2 mins...

Is Firefox your default browser?

I remember when I first tried Firefox I didn't have it set as default, it was slow to open.
When I decided I liked it, I set it as default and noticed that it opened much faster.

I have same problem, slow to start - also slow to render webpages: have done all the things suggested on their site to try to speed it up. Opera is much faster.
Tosh laptop 2.8GHz, .75gig ram

Have you changed the theme being used? I have found that some themes can cause it to slow quite a bit and have just left it with the default theme.

I tried the themes - changing and reverting to default. Not much change there, perhaps a little faster, but that could just be from ram.
I'll call this resolved.
