FIREFOX proxy server error

.

When I links on links in Firefox I get the following error notice:

The proxy server is refusing connections

Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.

* Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.

* Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is
working.

I have previously been using Onspeed which I do no longer - could this be part of the problem?

I have tried to uninstall it but without success.

How do I 'check the proxy settings' and what should I change them to?

Thanks.

uninstall firefox and reinstall the latest version will probably be the fastest way of sorting it out, sometimes it will take settings from internet explorer so make sure no proxy settings are ticked in that

I am not using 'proxy settings' as a matter of choice. I am only relating what the error message tells me. I have been through the Tools menu and found the problem.
