Firefox problem

I'm currently experiencing a problem with Firefox, 3.5.2 on a laptop running on Windows XP. Basically its hogging resources and taking up 99% of CPU power in the background. (Task Manager, firefox.exe 99%)
It's been happening for 24 hrs now and I've uninstalled twice now with no effect.
I guess no one else is experiencing it at the moment or it would be all over the forum, but has anyone any ideas?

Perhaps you have a corrupt update

Try uninstall an download a fresh version and install that.

Thanks fruitbat and Marg7. I completely forgot to remove the Firefox folder from programme files, also the troubleshooting link was very helpful re the profile folder and clean reinstall too.
Job done, thanks
