Firefox freezing

  olddromola 13:52 21 Dec 2010

I have been using Firefox trouble free for many years but in the last few days I find that after just a few clicks the page freezes. I then have to resort to Ctrl+Alt+Del to close the programme.

I have un-installed it then re-installed it half a dozen times to no avail. I am running on Vista.

Any ideas? Fortunately I also have IE so I'm not stuck for somewhere to go.

Could be a corrupt profile - try deleting and creating a new one click here

I agree with VoG™ but no need to delete the old profile.
Create a new one and Firefox will give you the choice which to load when Firefox boots.

Thanks for that VoG. I have followed your link and attempted to find the 'Profile Manager' as suggested via 'Search' but nothing is showing up. Am I missing a trick here?

Start, Run, enter

firefox.exe -ProfileManager

and click OK.

On WinXP SP3

As VoG™ say's, except I had to put in...

firefox -P

Well, I got it finally from Start - Run -Enter, however I am leaving things as they are at the moment as normal service was resumed a short time ago. It appears I had a dose of malaware that I have now removed, so maybe that was causing the problem.

Thank you both for your help - much appreciated.
