Files & Settings Transfer Problem

  onthelimit 16:40 13 Aug 2010

Needing to do a clean install of XP Pro, used the Files and Settings Transfer to save all data onto a removable hard drive. XP reinstalled, try to transfer to 'new' PC using E: USMT2.UNC (the only folder on the ext HDD which has 24Mb of DAT files), but get a message 'The location you have specified does not contain stored information. Please type a path into the box'. Any bright ideas please?

Hi,there is plenty of info out there in google land from people in a similar position as your self. In future just copy all your files over yourself to your external dive.Do not rely on F&ST.

24Mb doesn`t sound like a lot of data. It`s possible that the original transfer was corrupt.

A microsoft forum gave the answer - do not point to the actual file, but only the drive. Seems odd, but it has now worked on 3 laptops!

It was all compressed.
