I have just brought a new external hard drive, with the good idea of protecting my important current accounts databases and invoice word doc's.

Is there away to work in a folder on a word or excel doc on the desktop HD and when finished the work and saving, instantly automatically update the new info onto the external HD files?

You could try reading up on the command ROBOCOPY. This command (which can be set up in a batch file) offers many options for copying and mirroring. I vaguely recall one of the options was to monitor changes in a directory and to copy files when changes were noted.

Thanks am working on it at moment

I have found an option in EXcel that allows in save as> tools> all ways make a back up.

Which I have done
but it seems to save the back up file in the same location, bit pointless for a back up.
How do I change the location of the back up file?
