File recovery formatted hard drive

I had to reinstall windows on a computer tonight. I had planned to use the same partition as I expected the files to be moved into a folder called windows old. However I accidentally clicked quick format and installed windows over the top of the files already on the disk. I wish to recover the “my pictures” folder. Can anyone recommend a program which can if possible search for folders on a hard drive and back them up.

Thanks Alan

The most obvious is Recuva; click here

What filesystem was the drive before quick format? (FAT32 or NTFS)

ntfs

Many of the freebies only work on FAT32, but Recuva works on either.

Or if that does not work, you could try click here this is a link to a direct download.

A very useful bit of software to keep anyway.

PS - my link is particularly good at recovering images/pics.

Thanks

When I look in disk managment the drive is 149GB in several partitions.

63MB Unallocated
107.07GB NTFS HEALTY PRIMARY PARTITION
8MB Unallocated
37.23Gb NTFS LOGIVCAL DRIVE
4.64GB PRIMARY PARTITION

However I can only find the two biggest partitions with recuva.

The 37.07GB partition is a norton ghost backup I have been told. Is there anyway to open these files without norton ghost as the hard drive is in a different computer now.
