Using XP home and Outlook Express 6 with McAfee Security Center.Outlook Express will not open Powerpoint attchments it says create file association in Control Panel. Have checked this and all Powerpoint file extensions are correctly identified as to be opened using Powerpoint Viewer. Security settings also should allow attachments to be opened. Any suggestions?

Try saving the attachment then opening it.

That works, thanks, but it would be nice to be able to open the attachment directly

Save attachment to desktop. Right click icon on desktop then "open with" then left click "choose program" highlight PowerPoint viewer and click "always open with" check box, click "OK" and hope for the best. Future PowerPoint attachments should then open.

That's what the article said but I can't see any difference to using this approach and the File Association option in Control Panel.

There was somthing about this in septembers pca mag,if you are using powerpoint 2003 and OE as your email client,it say to resolve it open the registry editor(start/run/type regedit) then navigate to Hkey_Classes_Root\PowerpointViewer.Slideshow.11\shell then select the subfolder named "show" and press F2 to rename it then change the name to "Open"

Couldn't find the relevant entries using regedit but have resolved the problem by downloading and installing this click here to replace my previous version
