Feathering in Photoshop

Can anyone tell me how to feather a photograph to solid white in Adobe Photoshop. I can get it to feather but not as saturated as I want. I need to get the edges of the photograph to pure white so when I import it into a document the edge of the picture is not visable. Any photoshop gurus out there ?

Create a new page in white making it slightly larger than your photo. Drag the photo over the white document and the use either the eraser or the paint brush with the foreground set to white

Probably should have added, as you will now have two layers flatten them and crop to size

hssutton, thanks for the reply. Works great the way you suggested.

Cheers !

A quicker way: put the image onto a white background as hssutton suggests then add a layer-mask to the (top)image. Ensuring the layer mask is active, use the gradient tool to swipe across the image. You may have to repeat this a couple of times to blend the edges to pure white but the results are more consistent than trying to do it with a brush.
