Fatal System Error

Help!! For reasons best known to itself my PC has presented me with the Dreaded Blue Screen of Death with the comment Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated enexpectedly with a status of 0x000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.
I've tried all of the different F8 start-up procedures to no avail.

Can anyone out there throw any light on the possible cause and reasons?

Running XP Home with SP2

Thanks to you all for the suggestions. Still sculling around to find a solution. Did read about re-installing over existing XP? Anyone know if it will cause probs? I can't get into Windows to do some of the things suggested by MS.

If you can boot it up with the XP CD in then you will have the choice to Upgrade (install over the original) or Repair. It should not cause any probs and I don't think you have many options

I can't boot from the CD at all so I've a dead PC. Ah well. New HD here I come!!
