I have 2 PCs one running win2000 the other win 98 and I want to network them. They both have network cards so is it just a matter of buying a crossover cable or is direct cable connection a faster (transfer speed) option
What you need for 2 pc's is a crossover cable. Bare in mind, if you think there may be a possibility to expand this to 3 or more, a direct cable with a hub would be more cost effective in the long run.
An Ethernet crossover cable will be faster (provided you have 100Mb/s network cards, and use a Cat5 cable).
