faster with wireless switched off!

I am using a Netgear WGT624 v3 router with wired connection to my PC and printer.

The system seemed to be running quite slowly and when I checked the settings I found that the wireless transmitter was on (but fully protected). As I have no wireless kit at present I disabled this and now find that the system runs much faster.

Should I be suprised or is this normal behaviour?

(maybe a silly question but this is my first experience of setting up a home based LAN)

Could be that someone in your area picked up your wireless signal and was using it, or that some of the bandwidth available for sharing was dedicated to the wireless connection... do not be alarmed, just make sure you are running securely

Probably the removal of the overheads that the encryption uses , WEP and WPA use a lot of the routers processing cycles , plus it was also having to broadcast an SSID as well , and listen for someone trying to access it , it all uses resources .
