Faded icons what does this mean

Hi i am running windows xp sp2 all availabe updates installed. I have just noticed tonight that some of the icons in program files are faint as though they have faded has anybody any idea what this is?

Also just noticed some in local disc-documents and settings default user,local settings,printhood,recent,templates,aplication data,nethood and send to.

but how come they have only just become hidden they have always just been normal

It's more likely to be your setting to 'show hidden files and folders' that has changed. With it set to 'hide' you wouldn't have been aware that they were there.
The setting is in Explorer under Tools, Folder options, on the View tab.
