F8 to repair Windows - this deletes all installed?

F8 to repair Windows - this can take up to 30+ mins, does this mode delete all installed files and saved documents, or does it simply rescue all corrupt/missing files in the windows folder and nothing else?

Usually in a 'repair' only system files are repaired. But don't take any chances either way, & do a thorough backup prior to running it.

It may help if you could let us know the system's manufacturer & OS. FAQs on Vista's startup repair click here. G

woodchip, I think some pre-installed Windows systems (Vista & Win7 only?) come with the F8 option to repair/restore/etc. G

My computer came with a repair on a hidden partition (no Windows 7 disc) The instructions say to tap F8 to get into the hidden partition and it does say that the repair WILL wipe the c drive clean.
