I have a 320gb Sata external drive that I have put into a Sumvision caddy but when I connect to my laptop it is not recognised. Ican hear it spinning in the caddy but it is not being picked up by my computer. What, if anything, am I doing wrong? Thanks.

My computer - right click - manage - storage -disk management.

Can you see the drive there?

If so right click -initialise -format.

No there is nothing there. Do you think that maybe the Hard Drive is a no-user? Thanks.

Has the laptop found new hardware an loaded the drivers for the usb to sata interface and mass storage device?

No, nothing at all. I think the drive is knacked. Thanks.

If it's a USB connection some caddies will not accept a power hungry HDD. This may be even more likely with a laptop.

When I plug my caddy into the USB connection it lights up and powers up (like you I can hear, and feel, it spinning) but it doesn't show up until I connect an external power supply to the caddy.

Try to borrow a caddy with a power supply.

Thanks, but I`ve tried it with a powered docking station with the same results. It also doesn`t show in a desktop PC that I have. Cheers.
