External keyboard and mouse for laptop computer

I have purchased a secondhand laptop -an IBM Thinkpad T30 - and want to connect an external keyboard and mouse. It has two USB ports but I'll need one of these for a memory stick. There are other ports but I don't recognise them - does anyone know how I would ascertain which is for the external keyboard and/or mouse? Assuming there are ports for the keyboard/mouse, is it just personal preference whether to use these or the USB ports?

Usually keyboards and mouse are connected to a PS/2 connection. click here If you don't have those you could buy a PS/2 Splitter click here or you could buy a USB hub to give you more USB ports. click here

You are going to need a powered USB hub as there are NO other ports to connect a keyboard or mouse.
