does it connect via USB?

When you say it doesn't work, what do you mean?

  sharon2701 20:34 10 Nov 2005

Yes it connects with usb and it was working fine yesterday on my old pc.

Not sure but it may be because Win 98 used a Fat32 file system and XP is using NTFS, I don't think the two are compatable

If I'm right maybe someone with more knowledge will pick this up and be able to tell you if there is a solution

XP will read FAT32 although Win98 won't read NTFS - that's unlikely to be the problem.

Do you still have the old PC?

Can you try a different USB port?

Is it connecting via a hub or direct?

  sharon2701 20:51 10 Nov 2005

Ive tried different usb ports.

Excuse my ignorance but whats a hub?

Yes I do still have the old pc but it was on the verge of self destructing!

  Diodorus Siculus 20:54 10 Nov 2005

A hub is an external "box" with lots of USB ports that are all linked to one port on the PC. Don't worry, you don't have one.

Do you have any other USB devices connected?

  sharon2701 20:57 10 Nov 2005

Just a BT broadband router.

I asked about the other pc to ensure that the hdd was still working.

  sharon2701 22:09 10 Nov 2005
