I have a Packard Bell external harddrive,it's about 4 years old now and i think its starting to fail.
The green power light used to stay on and was solid but now sometimes only sometimes the green light turns to a solid red light and the hdd gives a little squeak every now and then. Is this a sign that it's time to buy a new external hdd ?

Try checking the Drive with Check Disc tool. Double click my computer then right click the drive Properties\Tools check the box to do a full scan fix
