Would something like this automatically be SATA - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Western-Digital-2-TB-External-Hard-Drive-2TB-2000GB-/190550554286?pt=UKComputingHardDrives_RL&hash=item2c5db2b6ae- there is no indication whether SATA or IDE/PATA? Should I expect there to be?

If it is an External Hard drive, then it does not matter whether it is IDE or SATA - Externals connect via USB.

Thanks, Nontek. But is not speed governed by whether it is SATA or PATA or am I completely mistaken. I have got many hard drives and caddies, but on ly one hard drive and caddy, is SATA which I bought because I thought it was quicker.

Yes, SATA is faster than IDE when connected internally to the respective sockets on the motherboard, but if external and connected via USB then the speed is down to the USB connection.

However, my findings are based purely on my own sense of 'common sense'.
